Celtic Woman is a group of women whose voices bring to life the music of Ireland, both traditional and contemporary. The vocalists that make up the group have come together with Composer and Musical Director David Downes to create something truly spectacular. The music combines with the beauty of the presentation to create the effect of a purely musical version of Lord of the Dance. In Celtic Woman shows the singers wear elaborate gowns that beautifully tie-in to what they are singing. It is a wonderful experience both visually and musically. This year the women are taking their newest show on the road, Celtic Woman tickets are currently available and the show will open at the Theater at Xcel in Saint Paul Minnesota on February 13, 2009.
Celtic Woman also stars world-famous Celtic violinist Mairead Nesbitt, who had her first international appearance as one of two female violinists in the world-famous show Lord of the Dance in 1997, the second was Cora Smyth. Her other film credits include a second Michael Flatley production Feet of Flames in 1998. Now, more than ten years on, she has had a number of TV appearances under her belt. The most recent of these includes an appearance on Live with Regis and Kathie Lee in 2006, the Irish production A New Journey: Live at Slane Castle, Ireland, and A Christmas Celebration: Live from Dublin in 2007.
Mairead Nesbitt also recorded a solo for the Joel McNeely score of the delightful Disney animated film Tinkerbell which was released October 28, 2008. According to the Disney Press Office, Mairead was chosen for the part to be a "unifying component for the film's score" when he saw her performance as a part of Celtic Woman's PBS special. He chose her because of her "captivating combination of expressive Celtic style and full-bodied classical sound."
Mairead also released her debut album Raining Up in 2006, which reached number 12 on Top World Music Albums. The album was a compilation of Celtic-inspired modern tracks and traditional Irish-Celtic songs. Traditional songs included "Finan's Isle Suite: The Butterfly," "An Raibh Tu Ag an Gcarraig?" and "Tri Fhildili (Smash the Windows/Prestons)." There were two songs composed entirely by Nesbitt herself, and one that was composed by Nesbit and Cooney, these were the title song, "Captain H," and "Bluelights."
The Celtic Woman will be having more shows in the US throughout the rest of March and leading up to July, when they will play their last two performances at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado at 8pm on July 1 and 2. From there they will take their newest show, Isle of Hope, overseas, with tour dates and venues still to be decided. Celtic Woman tickets are definitely ones to look forward to. Tickets to sold out shows may currently be available online at reputable ticket resellers.
